First Impressions
The Social Distance Bar & Grill bills itself as a “vibrant and engaging destination that perfectly blends excellent food, lively entertainment, and an inviting atmosphere.” When we visited on October 19, 2025, after dinner hours, the place was nearly empty.
We grabbed seats at the bar and placed our order. Unfortunately, there were no craft or Western New York beers on tap, so we settled for water. The decor was eclectic—think holiday decorations, twinkle lights on the ceiling, and plenty to look at while waiting.
The Beef on Weck
I’ll admit, my expectations were low. The menu described the sandwich as being served with a “creamy prepared horseradish sauce,” and given our earlier dining disappointments that day, I wasn’t holding my breath.
But then the food arrived—and everything changed.
The roast beef was thinly sliced, cooked to perfection, and bursting with rich, beefy umami flavor. Not a trace of gristle or fat—just warm, tender goodness. I had asked for au jus in a large bowl and real horseradish on the side, and both were excellent. The au jus, in particular, was nearly flawless.
The weck roll was light and fluffy, generously topped with salt and caraway seeds that actually stayed put through cutting and eating—something even many Buffalo spots struggle with.

The Side: Fries
I don’t usually get excited about fries, but these impressed me. They were skin-on, thick-cut, and perfectly seasoned—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of flavor. I normally reach for malt vinegar, but these were so good, I ate them plain.

Ambience & Experience
The vibe at Social Distance is unique—part local dive, part quirky hangout. The service was friendly, the decor chaotic but fun, and everything felt clean and well-kept. I suspect that during season, it gets quite lively.

Final Verdict: A+ A hidden gem worth the stop. Despite its unassuming atmosphere, Social Distance Bar & Grill delivers one of the best Beef on Weck sandwiches you’ll find outside of Buffalo. Great service, great food—definitely worth a visit anytime.
